Event Report | 2026 Brown Cup
Written by a mystery Loch Earn Sailing Club optimist sailor
"I thought that the Brown Cup was a great day off school! This was my second year sailing in the Brown Cup. I liked it last year but I liked it better this year because I knew what to do and what to expect.
I arrived early and rigged up my boat. There were a lot of people arriving and the car park was very full but everyone got their boats off their trailers and there was a buzz of excitement in the air. Loch Earn looked beautiful for sailing as it was sunny and there was a nice breeze.
At registration we got a really cool free pencil case and pencils that the sponsor Optos had bought us. I really liked these as they were made from recycled sails. We had a briefing at 10 o’clock and the Race Officer was very good at explaining everything to us and we were allowed to go and ask him questions at the end of it.
There were 3 races and we were told to take snacks and water out with us. I was glad of this tip, as I managed to eat a whole chocolate bar and water between races.
The wind came up after the first race and the rescue boats had a lot of work to do as there were people capsizing but everyone was ok. After the last race, we all came in and got free hotdogs and packed our boats away.
We then had an awards ceremony. I liked this because they presented lots of spot prizes to people who had good mindsets throughout the day. Largs Academy won the Brown Cup 2027 and it was good to see how everyone else did.
Would I recommend you go to the Brown Cup in 2027?
If you are a sailing fan, I would recommend you to go to The Brown Cup because it has a nice atmosphere and everyone is very friendly. The food was lovely and the home bakes were really tasty, especially when I was allowed more than one! I loved sailing, especially representing my school and it was really fun to see so many children out having a good time. I also loved getting Brown Cup merchandise which I took to school the next day! Hope to see you all at Loch Earn Sailing Club for Brown Cup in 2027."
Thanks for this contribution from the mystery LESC sailor - look out for their sail number on the water this summer at LESC!
